Ken Stickwood's Home Hardware

Stayner, Ontario

Got a heck of a nice surprise when I dropped by Ken Stickwood's Home Hardware store to pick up some nuts and bolts while on my way home driving through Stayner, Ontario, south of Wasaga Beach.

While paying for my purchases I happened to look up and, lo and behold, there was a G scale Home Hardware locomotive and several cars passing over my head!

In this day and age of box stores and indifferent sales staff, it was a pure pleasure to go back to my youth when our local hardware store in Richmond Hill also offered toys and brik brack amongst the nails and hammers.

Ken, in addition to the usual Home Hardware items, also has a large gift shop and a small stock of G scale equipment for local garden railway enthusiasts. If he doesn't have it... he'll get it for you.

As to the Home Hardware deisel? Back in 1998, VIA and Home ran a Canada-wide promotion giving away VIA trips in addition to other prizes. They even took an F40PH-2 and painted it with the Home Hardware colours and logo. Ken's son did the same with one of theirs.

During that visit we took several pictures of the store, the sky-high train and track and even found a picture of the prototype loco. You can see the larger versions by clicking on the thumbnails below.
