Uncoupling lever Also called a cut lever. The device which raises the locking pin in a coupler to allow the knuckle to open for uncoupling. Unit A single diesel locomotive. Unit train A freight train that carries a single commodity from source to destination and returns empty. USRA United States Railroad Administration. The USRA was responsible for the operation of America's railroads during World War I.
